Much like the skin of the inner thighs, the skin of the inner arms is thin and contains fewer elastic fibers. As individuals age, this skin easily loses its elasticity, contributing to sagging and the protrusion of inner arm skin. Additionally, women tend to accumulate fat deposits on the upper arms, resulting in undesirable deformities. While liposuction alone may be sufficient for some cases when addressed at a younger age, as one grows older, the lack of skin retraction may necessitate a brachioplasty to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
Liposuction may be performed before the resection of the excess skin. An elliptical skin and soft tissue flap is resected in order to achieve a tightening of the upper arm and the two skin edges are pulled together with a fine linear suture.
Our goal is to create as short scars as necessary. The scar is positioned in the inner part of the upper arm and will be hidden in normal position. Its length depends on the extent of the skin excess. Only in cases of massive weight loss or extremely loose skin the scar has to extend up to the elbow crease.
I have to admit that, after the surgery, I changed my wardrobe quite a bit. I never imagined to be wearing sleeveless tops again.
The Ocean Clinic team is dedicated to avoiding any unnecessary pain. We routinely perform a temporary local anesthesia of relevant sensory nerves, thus considerably lowering the pain in the early post-operative period. With an additional combination of one or two painkillers, you should be free of pain. Our sutures are in most absorbable; there is no need to remove stitches.
We will provide you with a special compression garment to be worn for about 4 to 6 weeks. Do not lift any objects beyond 8kg and avoid sports involving weights during this period.
Brachioplasty has very few complications if carried out by an experienced surgeon in a accredited facility. Rare complications include infection, hematoma requiring revision, and prolonged recovery due to swelling and/or hematoma.
Changes of sensibility of the skin are expected during the early postoperative period and disappear with time. Avoiding smoking days prior to surgery and 2-3 weeks post surgery enhances the wound healing process.
Liposuction only in cases of younger patients with good skin quality.
Numerous congress participations on body-sculpturing techniques show our expertise in this area. We offer an exclusive inter-disciplinary treatment program to minimize post-operative scarring. Our surgeons deliver workshops to educate surgeons all around the world on water-assisted liposuction.
