What to know before Veneers

What to Know Before Veneers Marbella. Ocean Clinic

Our teeth veneers can be used to:
  • Reshape your tooth to enhance its cosmetic appearance.
  • Adjust your tooth length.
  • Fix the appearance of tooth damage including cracks, and chips.
  • Brighten teeth without additional whitening treatments.
  • Make teeth appear straighter without braces.
  • Close gaps between teeth to create a more uniform appearance.
  • For conventional veneers small amounts of enamel may need to be reshaped to create the best result prior to bonding the overlying porcelain.

No prep veneers can be placed over your tooth without no alteration of your natural tooth structure. Lumineers are one well-known example of these types of veneers. However, since Lumineers were first introduced onto the market over 30 years ago we now have other brands of ultra-strong, ultra-thin porcelain materials with improved aesthetics. At the Ocean Clinic we craft our veneers using only the finest quality porcelain to replicate your tooth’s natural translucence and color and still maintain strength in very thin sections.
  • Tooth conservation: Our prepless veneers are so thin that they can be applied directly and achieve the results you want without any tooth preparation. This makes it even more conservative than traditional veneers.
  • Nothing to fear: No requirement for tooth trimming makes this procedure ideal for people who want to make a change but are generally fearful of having dental work performed.
  • Minimal tooth sensitivity: Since treated teeth remain generally undisturbed, post-placement sensitivity is seldom a problem. This isn´t always the case with conventional veneers.

We can transform chipped, stained, or crooked teeth in as little as two visits over a 2-week period.

Patient testimony

Nina made me feel at ease and comfortable. She provided many options for me with regards to treatment methods and price. I would 100% recommend her and the quality of her work.

Patients must keep up with your daily flossing and brushing and see our hygienist at least twice each year. Now is the time to break bad habits like nail biting or pencil biting. Chewing on hard objects could damage your veneers just like they damage your teeth. In fact, we generally say that, once placed, it takes as much force to break a porcelain veneer as it does a natural tooth.

Generally, if teeth are in good health then dental veneers are a very conservative form of treatment. Patients may have some slight hypersensitivity afterwards which soon resolves. However, if teeth are more extensively damaged or have had repeated procedures over the years there is a risk of the “nerve dying” and root canal treatment being required. This is always assessed and discussed on a case by case basis.

Porcelain veneers are very durable. They are highly resistant to staining and chipping. Most patients have a very satisfying result for 10-12 years or more. Depending on how wide your smile is (i.e. how much gum you show when smiling) after this time the edges of the veneers may start to become apparent which may adversely affect aesthetics and require replacements.

If teeth are very malaligned then it may require referral to an orthodontist to consider the possibility of straightening them which can make the restorative work more predictable and easier. This might be possible with a clear removable brace.

If teeth are quite dark or already quite heavily restored with fillings and/or new decay dental crowns may be a better option than veneers as they improve not only aesthetics but also confer more strength on the teeth.

On average we perform over 200 porcelain veneer cases annually.
